              Don't think about penguins.

I once knew this woman who did not buy new bras. She was not fat, nor was she unattractive, despite her age. But her boob management skills were sorely lacking.

I'm sure you're wondering why I feel the need to talk about this, and I must be honest, I'm reluctant to tell you... But seeing as you asked AND we're such great friends...

              Don't think about penguins.

I recently attended a work event and spoke to a really interesting and intelligent woman. At that awkward moment where the conversation was drawing to a close, I looked around the room and as my eyes came back to her, I noticed the lack of bra. It was a cold day.

There seems to be this misconception that there are clever women and there are pretty women. Most women fall somewhere between these poles. This woman was a great example of someone who believed this. Because she was clever, she didn't need to be pretty.

              Don't think about penguins. 

Here is my point. (finally) Her lack of bra made me angry for two reasons.

• After realising she wasn't wearing a bra, I was completely distracted. I know that conversation we had before the incident-of-the-free-boob was good, but I can't remember much of it. 
• I was a little insulted that she hadn't dressed appropriately for the event. Everybody else had bother to wear underwear.

It's like those penguins, as much as you try, all you can do is think about them.
